Everything you might ask
Plain answers about booking, treatments, laser and aftercare. If your question is not here, ask us. We like questions.
Booking and visits
How do I book an appointment?
Choose a treatment on our booking page, pick a preferred day and time, and send your details. For now this sends a booking request rather than a confirmed slot. A member of our team checks the diary and confirms your appointment by SMS. If you are unsure which treatment to choose, book a skin analysis or send us a message and we will help you decide.
Is the team all women, and are the rooms private?
Yes. Velour is a women-run studio and every treatment happens in a private room with the door closed. You will not be treated in a shared space or seen from the street. If you would like a particular therapist, or you have a preference about how you are covered during a treatment, tell us when you book and we will plan around it.
What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Weekend appointments are available by special request: choose a Saturday or Sunday in the booking app, or call us on 02 8114 8433, and we will confirm whether we can see you. Late-afternoon times tend to book out first, so request those a little earlier.
Where are you, and is there parking?
We are at 73 Middleton Rd, Chester Hill, a short drive from Sefton, Villawood, Guildford and Regents Park. Please allow a few extra minutes to park and find us, especially for a first visit or a patch test. Parking details will be listed on our contact page.
Do you take a deposit, and what is your cancellation policy?
Appointments of $200 or more, and every course or program, need a 20% deposit, taken by phone when we confirm your booking and taken off the price on the day. You can move or cancel free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice. With less notice, a fee of 50% of the treatment price applies, and a missed appointment is charged in full. If you are unwell or have an emergency, call us as soon as you can and we will be fair about it. The full details are in our terms.
How can I pay?
Payment is taken at the studio once your treatment is finished. We accept debit and credit cards, EFTPOS, phone and watch payments, and cash. Prices are shown on each service page and in the booking app, so you know the cost before you arrive. Deposits for larger bookings are taken by phone when we confirm, and come off the price on the day.
Brows and lashes
What is included in signature brow shaping?
We look at your face, your natural brow and how you like to wear it, then map the shape before any hair is removed. Nothing is taken away until you are happy with the plan. Signature brow shaping is $65, or $95 with a tint. It suits anyone who wants a brow that looks like their own, from a first shape to a regular tidy.
How long does brow lamination last?
Brow lamination sets and lifts the brow hairs so they look fuller and stay in place. Most people find the effect lasts around six to eight weeks, depending on hair type and aftercare. Keep brows dry for 24 hours and avoid heat and steam for the rest of the day. Lamination is $90, or $130 with the signature shape and a tint.
Is a lash lift the same as lash extensions?
No. A lash lift curls and lifts your own natural lashes, and the tint darkens them, so there is nothing added and nothing to fill. Most people enjoy the result for around six to eight weeks as lashes naturally shed. We check your lashes are suitable before we start. Lash lift and tint is $130. Keep lashes dry and avoid mascara for 24 hours.
Do I need a patch test before a tint?
Yes. Every new tint client has a quick skin test at least 48 hours before their first brow or lash tint, and we repeat it if it has been more than six months since your last tint with us, or if you have started new medication or reacted to a product since. It takes a few minutes and there is no charge. Tell us about any past reactions to hair dye when you book.
Facials and peels
Which facial should I book first?
If you are unsure, start with a skin analysis. It is a close look at your skin, what it needs and a plan you can follow. It costs $50 and that amount is credited against any treatment booked on the day. From there we may suggest a hydradermabrasion facial for dull or dehydrated skin, or an extraction facial for congestion.
What does a hydradermabrasion facial do?
A hydradermabrasion facial cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates in one treatment. Gentle suction and serums lift away surface build-up while the skin is flushed with hydration. There is no downtime for most people, so it is a good choice before an event. It costs $250. A course of facials usually works better than one, and results vary from person to person.
Will a chemical peel make my skin peel?
Not always. Lighter peels often cause mild dryness or fine flaking for a few days, while stronger peels can cause more visible peeling for up to a week. We choose the strength after looking at your skin, your history and the season. Chemical peels start from $205. Daily SPF and avoiding actives for a few days afterwards are essential.
What is a peel course?
We offer two courses of three professional peels: one for uneven tone and one for congested, breakout-prone skin. Each starts from $750. Spacing the peels a few weeks apart gives your skin time to settle between sessions and tends to give a more even result than a single peel. We start with a skin analysis to check a course suits you.
Skin resurfacing
What is the difference between RF microneedling and fractional resurfacing?
RF microneedling uses fine needles with radiofrequency energy to visibly refine texture, with a few days of redness. Fractional resurfacing treats small columns of skin at a time for texture and tone. Fractional CO2 is our deepest resurfacing treatment, with about a week of planned downtime. Every resurfacing treatment needs a consultation and a patch test first, and results vary from person to person.
Is resurfacing safe for olive or deeper skin?
It can be, with care. Olive and deeper skin has a higher risk of temporary darkening after heat or injury, so settings, timing and skin preparation matter. We assess your skin type, check your history of pigmentation and do a patch test before any resurfacing treatment. We usually prefer to plan deeper treatments for the cooler months, away from strong summer sun.
How much downtime should I plan for?
Expect redness for one to several days depending on the treatment. RF microneedling usually means a few pink days. Fractional CO2 needs about a week of planned downtime, with dryness and flaking while the skin renews. Book resurfacing well clear of weddings, Eid or holidays, and plan to stay out of the sun while your skin settles.
Laser hair reduction
Is laser hair reduction suitable for olive and dark skin?
Yes, with the right approach. Laser targets the pigment in the hair, so the aim is to heat the hair without overheating the surrounding skin. Deeper skin needs settings and a laser type chosen for it, plus a patch test. Our senior therapist has more than twelve years in laser clinics and treats all skin types. Results vary from person to person.
What is a Fitzpatrick skin type?
It is a simple scale from 1 to 6 that describes how your skin reacts to the sun. Type 1 is very fair skin that always burns. Type 6 is deep brown skin that rarely burns. Many olive skin tones sit around types 3 and 4. Knowing your type helps us choose safe laser settings and decide how cautious to be.
How many laser sessions will I need?
Most people need a course of around six to eight sessions, and some areas or hair types need more. Hair grows in cycles, and laser only affects hairs in the active growth phase, which is why one session is never enough. After the course, occasional top-up sessions may be needed. Results vary with hair colour, skin type and hormones.
How far apart are laser sessions?
Face sessions are usually spaced about four to six weeks apart, and body areas about six to eight weeks apart. Spacing follows the hair growth cycle, so coming back too early does not speed things up. As hair thins, gaps between sessions often get longer. We will set a schedule for each area at your first appointment.
Does laser hair reduction hurt?
Most people describe it as a quick snap or a warm flick, like a rubber band. Sensitive areas such as the upper lip and bikini line feel sharper, and it usually eases as the hair thins over the course. Cooling during and after treatment helps. Tell your therapist at any time if you are uncomfortable and settings can be reviewed.
Should I shave before laser?
Yes. Shave the area the day before your appointment so the laser reaches the hair below the skin without burning hair on the surface. Do not wax, pluck, thread or use hair removal cream for about four weeks before, because the laser needs the hair root in place. Come with clean skin, no deodorant, fake tan or makeup on the area.
Can I go in the sun before and after laser?
Avoid tanning and strong sun for at least two to four weeks before and after each session. Tanned skin holds more pigment, which raises the risk of burns and pigment changes. Use SPF 50+ daily on treated areas that are exposed. Remove fake tan fully before you come. In Sydney summer, a hat and shade matter as much as sunscreen.
I have PCOS or hormonal hair growth. Will laser work for me?
Laser can reduce the look of hair in hormone-sensitive areas such as the chin and jawline, but hormones can keep producing new hairs, so you may need more sessions and regular maintenance. Results vary from person to person. If hair growth is new, sudden or heavy, please see your GP first. They can check for an underlying cause before you start.
Do you treat men?
Yes. Laser hair reduction is available for women and men, including a full-body session for men at $400 and a full back at $200. Men are treated in a private room, with the same patch test, consultation and aftercare as every other client. Results vary from person to person, and coarse hair on the back or chest usually needs a full course.
How private is a Brazilian laser appointment?
Very. Your treatment is done by a female therapist in a private room with the door closed. You undress only the area being treated and are covered with a towel or disposable underwear throughout. Our therapists do this every day and keep the appointment calm and efficient. A Brazilian session is $75. Please shave the area the day before.
Why do I need a patch test?
Every client has a patch test before a first laser treatment. It checks how your skin responds and lets us set safe settings for you. We test a small area, then you wait before the full session so any reaction has time to show. We also ask about medications, skincare and recent sun, all of which change how skin reacts to laser.
Is laser hair reduction permanent?
Laser is hair reduction, not permanent removal. A full course usually leaves hair finer, lighter and much sparser, and many people need only occasional top-ups afterwards. Fair, grey, red and very light hair responds poorly because it has little pigment for the laser to target. Results vary from person to person, which is why we start with a consultation and patch test.
When do laser appointments open?
Laser appointments open once our devices are confirmed and registered for use in the studio. You are welcome to send an enquiry now, and we will contact you to arrange a consultation and patch test as soon as bookings open. Prices are already listed, starting at $40 for the upper lip or underarms.
Pigmentation, vascular and tattoo removal
Can you treat sun spots and uneven pigment?
We offer laser pigmentation from $250 per session and IPL skin rejuvenation at $220, both for sun spots and uneven tone. Not all pigment is the same. Some types, such as hormonal pigment, can darken with heat, so we assess your skin first and may start with gentler options. A consultation and patch test are required, and results vary from person to person.
What should I do about a mole or a spot that is changing?
Please see your GP or a dermatologist before any cosmetic treatment. A spot that is new, growing, changing shape or colour, itching or bleeding needs a medical check. We never treat moles, and we do not treat any spot that has not been looked at by a doctor if we have concerns. Australia has high skin cancer rates, so regular skin checks matter.
Can you treat facial redness and small visible vessels?
Our capillaries and vascular treatment starts from $250 and targets visible small vessels and redness, usually on the nose and cheeks. Several sessions may be needed, and some redness can return over time with sun, heat and triggers such as spicy food. Ongoing flushing can have medical causes, so we may suggest seeing your GP first. Results vary from person to person.
How many sessions does laser tattoo removal take?
Most tattoos need several sessions, often six to twelve or more, spaced at least six to eight weeks apart. Black ink usually fades best, while some colours are slower. Size, ink depth, age of the tattoo and your skin type all play a part. Sessions are $200 small, $250 medium and $350 large. A consultation and patch test are required.
Body
What does body contouring involve?
Body contouring is a course of treatments for areas you would like to refine, starting from $495. We start by talking about your goals, your health and your timeline, and we explain honestly what can and cannot change without surgery. It works best alongside steady habits rather than as a quick fix. A consultation is required and results vary from person to person.
What is skin tightening?
Skin tightening uses radiofrequency heat to give skin a firmer-looking appearance, often on the tummy, arms or above the knees. It starts from $290 and usually works best as a course. Most people return to normal activities the same day, with mild warmth or redness. A consultation is required, and results vary from person to person.
Skin consultations
What is an advanced skin consultation?
It is a private consultation with our registered nurse about a skin or facial concern. She asks about your health, medications and any previous work, looks closely at your skin and listens to what you would like to change and keep. Options, risks and costs are discussed in person. Nothing is decided on the day, and you are welcome to go home and think.
Why are prices and treatments not listed for consultations?
Some options discussed in an advanced consultation can only be decided after an in-person assessment, and Australian advertising rules limit how they can be described online. That protects you as well as us. Options, risks and costs are discussed in person with our registered nurse, and nothing is decided on the day. You leave with information, not pressure.
Is it normal to leave a consultation without booking anything?
Yes, and we encourage it. A good consultation should leave you with a clear picture of your skin, the realistic options and what each involves. Many people go home to think, talk to family or wait for a better time of year. Sometimes the right answer is a skincare change, a visit to your GP, or simply nothing at all.
Aftercare and safety
What should I tell you before a treatment?
Tell us about any medicines, supplements and skincare you use, including vitamin A creams, plus allergies, cold sores, skin conditions, recent sun or tanning, and any cosmetic work in the last year. Some medicines make skin more sensitive to light or slower to settle after treatment. If you are unsure whether something matters, mention it anyway. It helps us keep your treatment safe.
Can I have treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Brow shaping, waxing and gentle hydrating facials are fine. Tints and lash lifts are fine after a skin test, although hormone changes can make results less predictable. We do not offer laser, IPL, chemical peels, RF microneedling, resurfacing, body treatments or advanced skin consultations while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Always tell us if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, and check with your GP or midwife if you are unsure.
How do I protect my skin after a laser or skin treatment?
Use a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and broad spectrum SPF 50+ every day. Avoid heat, saunas, hard exercise and swimming for a day or two, and skip exfoliants and actives until your skin has settled. Do not pick at flaking or crusting. If you notice blistering, spreading redness or anything that worries you, contact us straight away.
Can I have a treatment if I have a cold sore or broken skin?
No. Please reschedule if you have an active cold sore, a rash, sunburn, a cut or an infection in the treatment area. Heat and exfoliation can spread or worsen it. If you get cold sores often and are booking laser or a peel around the mouth, tell us at booking so you can talk to your GP or pharmacist about prevention beforehand.
Who will do my treatment, and what training do they have?
Laser and advanced skin treatments are led by our senior skin and laser therapist. She holds a Bachelor of Dermal Sciences, a graduate certificate in IPL and laser hair reduction and a Diploma of Beauty Therapy, and has more than twelve years in laser and skin clinics. Advanced skin consultations are with a registered nurse. Ask us anything about training.
Courses and shop
What brow and lash courses do you offer?
We run one-day, one-on-one courses in eyebrow shaping and in lash lift and tint, with a single student so every hour is spent on your technique. You receive a certificate of completion and ongoing mentoring afterwards. Send us an enquiry through the contact page for dates and course fees.
Do I need experience to do a course?
No experience is needed for a beginner course, although it helps to have a genuine interest in brows or lashes and steady hands. Because training is one-on-one, we can adjust the pace to suit a beginner or someone refreshing existing skills. Tell us about your background when you enquire and we will suggest the right starting point.
Can I buy brow products from the studio?
Yes. We stock a brow retail range, including brow styling products, plus a house skincare line. Your therapist can show you how to use a product during your appointment so you can recreate the look at home. Ask in the studio for current stock. An online store link will be added to our shop page once it is ready.
